Introducing Rare Boards
Bringing increased utility — and fun! — to NFTs and digital art.
Rare Boards are digital art pieces with standalone playable games layered over the artwork. We are collaborating with top artists, brands and game designers to create limited edition game board collectibles. The first game we are launching on the Rare Boards platform is darts.
We could not be more fortunate to have Rare Board #1 be designed by the incredible Alotta Money. Unless you’re new to the NFT scene, you probably have heard of Alotta Money, so we’ll save his bona fides for later. However, more than likely, you have never heard of Rare Boards. That changes now.
Art + NFT + Game = Rare Board
Owners of Rare Boards will not only be able to display it in a metaverse like any other art piece, but they will also be able to play on the board with friends. The first game we’re launching is Darts — a straight up darty party. In this case, the NFT — the Rare Board — is the actual dart board you get to hurl darts at.
What are Rare Boards and why are they valuable?
Rare Boards are digital collectibles — technically non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the blockchain. All you need to know about the blockchain is that it means the Rare Boards are provably rare (just like any collector’s item!). It also means it can be collected and owned.
Also, because Rare Board NFTs have utility, if someone ever were to try and copy the image of your Rare Board, it won’t work. Only the original, backed on the blockchain, will come with playability.
Once you own it, you can play on it whenever you want. You can play alone (ah the solitude), with friends (fun!) or even with strangers (make new friends!) You will always be recognized as its owner. Each Rare Board will maintain its own leaderboard.
You can also show off and interact with your board in any virtual world, like Decentraland or CryptoVoxels. When you place the Rare Board in your scene, you’re showing off some cool art while creating a two-way portal between your spot in a virtual land and your Rare Board.
All the games are played in the Rare Board game environment. By hosting the games, we can guarantee a smooth, consistent game experience no matter which metaverse you’re coming from or going to.
For example, you own a Darts Rare Board and display it in your build in CryptoVoxels. If someone interacts with the dartboard, they can quickly hop over to play without losing their location in CryptoVoxels.
How it’s all going go down
We are ready for the trial by fire that is the WIP — the weekly meetup in the Cryptovoxels and Decentraland. Rare Boards is one of the events in the inaugural Metalympics — all the Olympics with 75% less of the scandals. Our event is starting Thursday, December 3! There will be events throughout the week. We’re Second Legion Studios, an independent blockchain development team that has been working in the NFT space for nearly three years now. We’ve developed services and products in different industries but gaming — and specifically NFTs & gaming — has been our focus for some time now. Artists, like Alotta Money and Trippyogi, create Rare Boards of their own design. We provide some guides to follow to ensure a smooth game play, but in general, we’re pretty much only bound by their creativity.
Sales of Rare Boards and any other associated NFTs (like NFT darts!) are split with the artist. Interested in designing a Rare Board? Let us know!

Long term we envision building games that are directly compatible with different virtual worlds. We’re specifically designing these early boards to be compatible with multiple virtual worlds, taking a metaverse agnostic approach for now.
